Overview
Two Creeks Park is a neighborhood park located along a 3.8-acre riparian corridor in Lakewood, Colorado, envisioned as a place where ecological restoration and community life come together. Originally master planned in 2013 and realized through long-term collaboration with the City of Lakewood, the project transforms a disturbed dry creek channel, including removal of a former car wash, into a living landscape that supports both people and native ecology.
The park is bisected by Dry Gulch, a natural drainage channel flowing into the South Platte River and serving as a defining ecological feature of the site. Flow Design Collaborative approached the project with the goal of working with natural systems and honoring the movement of water through the landscape, creating a rhythm of circulation and gathering that follow the contours of Dry Gulch and the surrounding topography.
The design of Two Creeks Park reflects a commitment to restoring ecological systems while creating a welcoming and meaningful public space for the Lakewood community.
Preliminary Schematic Design Concept
Through a collaborative engagement process, the design team was able to create a park concept that aligned with the needs and desired uses of the community.
A thoughtfully designed palette of native riparian and prairie plant communities strengthens the health of this urban waterway by stabilizing soils, improving water quality, and providing habitat for birds, pollinators, and other urban wildlife. In doing so, the park weaves ecological function into an accessible public landscape.
Throughout the site, outdoor spaces support discovery and engagement while maintaining safety and visibility. A highlight of the park is a nature-inspired playground that echoes the forms and rhythms of the creek, with flowing lines and layered elevation changes that encourage imaginative and physical play. The park is also punctuated by a demonstration garden that, upon completion, will serve as a living classroom, highlighting drought-resilient planting strategies and the essential role of pollinator corridors in urban ecosystems.
Two Creeks Park demonstrates how landscape architecture can restore land, strengthen neighborhood connections, and provide everyday access to nature in an urban context.
